What is “normal”? As an artist what is the role of the “normal” in creating art? Specto wants to know! For this exhibit we’re looking to push the boundaries and associations we have with the “norm”. We’re thinking this means documenting specific subcultures, exploring topics of an abnormal focus (e.g. paranormal, spirituality, etc), challenging the way we consume or think about the normality of art or other aspects of our lives, pushing the boundaries of how we perceive normal, and so much more. What is the role of weird in art? We want you to take this topic and truly run with it, find the weird in your life and explore it.

Considering what’s left behind is a consistent aspect of art creation. Whether it’s examining the changes in ourselves or the world, or simply choosing what not to include in an artwork. Art is a process of elimination, and we want to see what happens when we focus on what’s left behind. Explore this topic in anyway you see fit, just show us the world of remnants around you. Abandoned buildings or abandoned worldviews, the mistakes we make in creation, or the mistakes we make as a nation, anything. Turn the idea of whats left behind inside out.
